Notre Dame Global in Photos: June 2024

Notre Dame's inaugural summer study abroad program in India wrapped up with a journey to the Taj Mahal while School of Architecture students interned at Rome's iconic Castel Sant'Angelo. Faculty and staff led expeditions to Saint Patrick’s fifth century mission on the Hill of Slane, and to volcanoes and markets in the Guatemalan Highlands. Notre Dame Santiago gathered students from its myriad programs to form connections over completos and sopaipillas while students enjoyed authentic Jamaican cuisine in Brixton, home to London’s largest British Jamaican population.

This photo gallery highlights some of the valuable interactions and experiences Notre Dame faculty, staff and students have taken part in over the past month.

Dublin Study Abroad Summer 2024

DUBLINNotre Dame Dublin's Engineering Summer Programme spent the afternoon exploring the Boyne Valley, learning about its rich history—from the Neolithic mound at Dowth to Saint Patrick’s fifth-century mission on the Hill of Slane and through to the monastic period at Monasterboice.

Notre Dame Hong Kong welcomed Megan Piersma - June 2024

HONG KONG — Catherine Leung, director of Notre Dame Hong Kong welcomed Megan Piersma, senior director of career success and external engagement at the Mendoza College of Business. The two spent time exploring opportunities for Notre Dame EMBA students to globalize their education in Hong Kong.

The fourth cohort of U.S. diplomats at ND Jerusalem - June 2024

JERUSALEM — The fourth cohort of U.S. diplomats taking a full year of spoken Arabic at Notre Dame Jerusalem's academic center, successfully graduated last week. This important milestone was celebrated by encouraging these diplomats to continue embracing the beauty of the Arabic language.

Irish Seminar in June 2024

KYLEMORENotre Dame Kylemore hosted the Irish Seminar, a flagship program for Irish Studies at Notre Dame that has been presented annually since 1999 and is highly selective. The seminar brought together a group of 20 PhD students from around the world to be taught by internationally-renowned scholars and writers.

Notre Dame summer students in London - Summer 2024

LONDONNotre Dame London summer students enjoyed traditional Jamaican cuisine at Fish, Wings & Tings at Brixton Market. Brixton is home to London’s largest British Jamaican population, often called “Little Jamaica” since the first major Caribbean migration to the United Kingdom in 1948.

ND Mexico Trip to Guatemala

MEXICONotre Dame Mexico students and staff took in the sunset during a recent visit to Guatemala. Joetta Schlabach, former program coordinator at the Kellogg Institute and her husband, Gerald Schlabach guided students and staff through a variety of activities where they learned about the history of Panajachel, located in the Guatemalan Highlands, west of Guatemala City. While in Guatemala, the group also visited self-sustainable producers of honey, coffee, chocolate and fabrics and learned the production process of each.

India Summer SA Program

MUMBAI — Led by the Notre Dame Mumbai team, the India Summer students' adventure wrapped up in June with a journey to Agra, home of the Taj Mahal. The iconic monument, a symbol of eternal love, underscored the country’s rich history and breathtaking beauty.

ND Bridge and GPE students meet with new ND East Africa club president Miriam Wachira.

NAIROBINDBridge and Global Professional Experience students met with Jackline Oluoch-Aridi, director of Notre Dame Nairobi and Miriam Wachirathe, the newly-appointed president of the Notre Dame East Africa Alumni Club.

Rome Students and Faculty Summer 2024

ROMENotre Dame Rome hosted three students from the School of Architecture who took part in a six-week internship at Castel Sant'Angelo, one of the most well-known and visited monuments in Rome.

ND Santiago gathers students - June 2024

SANTIAGONotre Dame Santiago gathered students from its myriad programs to enjoy completos and sopaipillas (typical Chilean fast food). The group was comprised of nearly 50 students from ND Santiago's spring and summer programs, Global Professional Experience, NDBridge, The Bridge, and current and newly-admitted Chilean ND undergraduates.

SA and GPE Students visit Rio Summer 2024

SÃO PAULO — Notre Dame summer study abroad and Global Professional Experience students visited Rio de Janeiro and got to try on traditional Brazilian Carnival costumes. The Carnival in Rio de Janeiro is considered the largest carnival in the world, with two million people per day filling the streets.

The ND-PKU Philosophy Summer Course

BEIJING — Notre Dame Beijing kicked off its Beijing Summer Philosophy Program, a partnership with Peking University. ND students are pictured with Don Howard, professor of philosophy within Notre Dame's Department of Philosophy.
