Notre Dame International (NDI) is now accepting applications from undergraduate students outside of the University of Notre Dame for a residential study abroad program in Jerusalem that will take place in the spring of 2022. The Journey to Jerusalem program is a unique residential learning community which will provide students the opportunity to work with local community organizations and NGOs. Because students will reside together at the University of Notre Dame at Tantur (UNDT) facility, there will also be opportunities for interfaith dialogue.

“Notre Dame’s study abroad program in Jerusalem is truly unique,” says Daniel Schwake, executive director of UNDT. “Our students enjoy a rigorous curriculum in conjunction with a true cultural immersion.”

Several regional trips are integrated into the program, including pilgrimages to Galilee and Nazareth, as well as visits to Holy Sites in Bethlehem and Jerusalem. Students from all areas of study are welcome to participate in the program. There are many different course offerings including political science, peace studies, history, philosophy, theology, and international relations. Additionally, participants have the option to earn academic credit for an internship with a local organization.

“Besides a set of core courses that we offer at the University of Notre Dame at Tantur, students are encouraged to study at our partner universities in Jerusalem and Bethlehem with which we have bilateral exchange agreements,” adds Schwake. “This allows them to explore the region and learn at leading institutes, while having Tantur as an anchor and home.”

The University of Notre Dame at Tantur also recently launched an initiative called the International Student Community. This initiative welcomes people from all walks of life that are interested in forming and engaging with a community that follows Christian values and fosters interfaith dialogue. Students studying abroad in Jerusalem at UNDT will be immersed in this rich and diverse community.

Registration for this new program is now open.

Notre Dame International will also open the London fall study abroad program to non-Notre Dame students beginning in the fall of 2022.
