The Grammar of Palestinian Spoken Arabic

This may be the most comprehensive yet accessible book (in English and Arabic) covering the grammar of Spoken Arabic in the Palestinian dialect. The book is intended for English speakers with a basic background in Literary Arabic (aka Modern Standard Arabic, MSA) who wish to develop their ability to speak the Palestinian dialect based on their existing knowledge of MSA.

The book consists of 24 chapters in which students are introduced to the basic rules of grammar that open the door to the world of Spoken Arabic. Each chapter gives examples of usage and is followed by relevant exercises to practice the material studied. The book is sponsored and prepared by the University of Notre Dame at Tantur (UNDT) and the Arabic Academy for Professionals Ltd. (AAP), and it is intended for use in the courses offered by both.

 

 

 

 

Palestinian Spoken Arabic: Through Stories & Dialogues

This book features a variety of descriptive texts and dialogues in Palestinian Spoken Arabic on everyday topics (food, home life, clothing, descriptions of people and places, jobs, etc.), guidelines for appropriate behavior in Arab society, and a collection of greetings and expressions, commonly used in conversation.

The intended readers are English speakers with a basic background in Literary Arabic (aka Modern Standard Arabic, MSA) and the grammar rules of Palestinian Spoken Arabic who wish to develop their ability to speak the Palestinian Arabic dialect, based on their existing knowledge.

The book consists of ten lessons that present students with various texts, containing common sentence structures and forms of expression in Palestinian Spoken Arabic and also integrate significant cultural elements. The two final lessons in the book include a list of greetings "mujamalat" and language features (forms of address, conjunctions, expressions of agreement and reservation, etc.) that are very useful when conversing in the correct form in Palestinian Spoken Arabic. Each text is followed by a list of important vocabulary contained within.
